On July 19, 2018, AmCham Egypt Inc. and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted a roundtable meeting with Dr. Sahar Nasr, Egypt’s Minister of Investment and International Cooperation. The meeting was held at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C. The meeting aimed at discussing the bilateral relations between both countries, as well as the recent reform measures undertaken by the Egyptian government.
Representing AmCham Egypt Inc. were Hisham Fahmy, Chief Executive Officer, and Dalia Wahba, Vice President, Membership. The meeting was attended by H.E. Yasser Reda, the Egyptian Ambassador to the U.S. as well as representatives from U.S. companies including; AGECO, Apex International Energy, Procter & Gamble, Pfizer, Boeing, ExxonMobil, Coach, Lockheed Martin, MetLife, Glover Park, and Watts Constructors.
Minister Sahar Nasr gave an overview on the government’s economic and legislative reforms which started with the floatation of the Egyptian pound in November, 2016, followed by the drafting of an Investment Law, a Bankruptcy Law, along with other laws and regulations which provide incentives for investors.
Moreover, Minister Nasr presented the recently launched Investment Portal, in which investors can learn about the opportunities available in the country by location, as well as the country’s investment procedures, laws and regulations.
The meeting was held in anticipation of the U.S. Business Mission to Egypt, organized by AmCham Egypt, and scheduled during October 23-26, 2018. The delegation will include more than 50 leading U.S. Corporations represented through their global and regional senior executives from across a range of industries and sectors. During their visit to Egypt, the delegation will underscore the longstanding commitment of the American business community to Egypt’s long-term stability and prosperity; as well as explore prospective investment and business opportunities.
